Fuel poverty charity joins calls for investigation into why so many energy prepay customers have not received support

We are joining Which?, Citizens Advice, Age UK and Money Saving Expert (see the letter here) in calling on energy firms and the government to urgently investigate why so many customers on traditional prepayment meters have not yet accessed the government support.
National Energy Action director of policy and advocacy Peter Smith says: “The forcible instalment of prepayment meters or the switching of smart meters to smart prepayment is something we are very concerned about. We want suppliers to follow current rules and ensure any vulnerabilities are identified. We would support the increasing calls for a moratorium on this practice this winter.
“Suppliers need to work with their customers to decide the best plan to enable them to pay for their energy and pay off any debt.”
