Energy Awareness 6281-01 (Level 3 Award)
E-Learning / Online assessment
How will the e-learning work?
Learners will have access to the course for eight weeks from a start date of their choice, allowing them to study online at a time and location that suits them. They will also receive a range of supporting materials, including a self-assessment checklist, activities and handouts.
When ready, learners will complete the assessment, which is divided into two parts as outlined below. Both the course and assessment must be completed within the eight-week period.
Tutor support
Tutors will be available upon request to assist with specific queries relating to the course content. This is usually done via e-mail or telephone / video call.
Please note that this support is time limited as e-learning is generally self-led however more in-depth tuition can be arranged at an extra cost if required.
Suggested study time
For those new to the subject, we recommend allowing approximately 20 hours to complete the course, plus a further 9 hours to prepare for the assessment (experienced advisors may complete it more quickly).
As learners progress at different speeds, the e-learning format provides the flexibility to study at your own pace.
Please note that the assessment will require additional time, as outlined below.
Assessment information
The assessment is delivered online and is split into two parts as follows:
PART 1: SIMULATION BASED ASSESSMENT
- Demonstrate problem-solving abilities using an electricity bill
- Explain how to correctly read a dial meter
- Demonstrate how to set a mechanical programmer and explaining to the assessor the various functions of the programmer.
- Demonstrate how to set a digital programmable room thermostat.
The simulation is a 30-minute controlled assessment that must be observed by an assessor on a set date. A programme of open access dates will be offered to learners once booked onto the course. This will be delivered online via Zoom.
The assessor will use role play to create a realistic scenario that allows the candidate to demonstrate their skills.
PART 2: OPEN BOOK WRITTEN ASSESSMENT
- Home Heating
- Bills, Meters and Paying for Fuel
- Cutting Down Heat Loss
- Condensation and Dampness
This is a non-controlled assessment, meaning it does not require observation by an assessor.
The assessment will be released to learners upon successful completion of stage 1 (the simulation-based assessment) and they will have 14 days to complete. We recommend that learners set aside a minimum of 3 hours to complete the assessment.
The assessment consists of a number of short-answer questions. Open book format meaning that learners are encouraged to refer to course materials and will also be provided with a candidate assessment reference document.
