Iain Deboys
Iain is married with two grown up sons. He holds a degree in Geography and a Master of Science in Town and Country Planning from Queen’s University Belfast. He worked as a strategic planner in the Northern Ireland Housing Executive from 1983 – 1990 when he moved to the Northern Health and Social Care Board, working first as a contracts manager from 1990 – 1997 and then as Director of Service Development, Performance Management, Information and IT and Risk Management from 1997 to 2009. Following re-organisation in 2009 he was appointed Commissioning Lead for Belfast in the new Regional Health and Social Care Board until his retirement in 2022. He was also lead regional commissioner for older people, neurology and stroke. He served for ten years as chair of the multi agency Belfast Healthy Ageing Strategic Partnership, focusing on the needs of the most vulnerable older people and ensuring they had a strong voice in the city structures. He was co-chair of the Living Here Board within community planning as well as a member of the City Resilience Board. He was instrumental in establishing the Belfast Warm and Well Programme with NEA as well as ensuring fuel poverty was a priority issue within the community planning structures. Iain is also Northern Ireland Trustee with Humanists UK and a Trustee with Mid and East Antrim Agewell Partnership. He is a Non religious Pastoral Support volunteer in prison; a School Speaker on humanism and Humanist Celebrant performing weddings and funerals for the growing numbers of the non religious.
