Learnings from NEA’s Technical innovation fund field trials

The first part of this project is to ensure 11 rural park homes with vulnerable residents are inadequately insulated. The second part of the project is to install battery storage systems in 22 properties with PV.

The project installed and compared the performance of three makes of batteries from, Moixa, Sonnen and Growatt in 41 properties across three London boroughs.

This project will installed SunGain Battery Bank (SBB) energy storage technology in 35 homes alongside Solar existing PV systems for the benefit of fuel poor and vulnerable households off the Gas Grid in Thurrock. The project will assess the potential of enhancing the efficiency of PV technology.

The project was led by Nottingham Energy Partnership (NEP).

Solar PV combined with battery storage is a relatively new but fast developing technology. The aim is to store excess power generated by the solar PV system which would otherwise be exported to the grid. When the electricity consumption of the property is greater than any power generated by the solar array then at least some of the extra demand can be supplied from the charged batteries.
