Leicester Energy Action was funded by NHS Leicestershire, Leicester & Rutland, and worked in partnership with Public Health at Leicester City Council.

Targeting the most vulnerable households in the city, our Leicester-based team offered affordable warmth and energy efficiency advice directly to clients. We delivered one-to-one advice, community engagement and group advice sessions, educational opportunities in schools, and training for frontline workers.

Between February 2023 and November 2024, we helped the most vulnerable households in Leicester:

  • 1,557 clients supported
  • 112 community events reaching 1,264 people
  • 93% were vulnerable clients
  • Helped low-income households – 88% with a household income of less than £16,001 a year
  • Helped those living with health conditions or disabilities – 54% had a mental health condition, 17% had a cardiovascular condition, 18% had a physical impairment, 16% had a respiratory condition, 12% had a musculoskeletal condition
  • Targeted those living in sectors most at risk from fuel poverty – 77% lived in the rented sector, 65% of which were in the social rented sector and 12% in private rented sector
  • Reached multiple communities with 39.4% clients White British, 15.7% Asian or Asian British Indian and 10.1% Black or Black British African – 16 ethnically diverse communities reached in total, speaking 26 languages
  • A quarter of clients (25%) were single parents with dependent children
  • Over a third (36%) were lone person households
  • Almost a fifth (19%) of households had at least one child under the age of 5
  • 62% said they had struggled to find help with their problem elsewhere
