NEA is delighted to be working with UK Power Networks to deliver the Warm Minds project.

Warm Minds is a small-scale pilot project in London, the South East and East of England, which aims to reduce the impact of fuel poverty and help support people with mental health issues and their carers, to reduce their energy consumption, use energy more efficiently and achieve a warmer home.

Living in a home which is cold, damp and unaffordable to heat can have a detrimental impact on a person’s wellbeing, particularly their mental health. NEA is delivering a series of interactive workshops to help people manage their energy use; lower their fuel bills; and understand the links between cold homes and the impact on mental wellbeing. Alongside this, NEA is providing training for frontline mental health advisers to ensure they can refer their clients for support such as the Priority Services Register, which offers additional help for vulnerable customers.

Feedback from project beneficiaries includes:

“The [Warm Minds workshop] last week which calculated the total impact in money on small behaviour changes was interesting. Small changes together really can make a big difference”

“I found the energy tariff switching in this workshop really useful, I didn’t know how easy it was to switch until today”

For further information about the project contact Heather.Critchlow@nea.org.uk. Furthermore, if you, or someone you know is experiencing mental health issues and are worried about your energy and water costs please call NEA free on 0800 304 7159 for support and advice.
