Price cap FAQ

Every three months, the energy price cap changes, impacting the cost of energy bills.

To help you understand what the changes mean and how this will affect the people we support, read our FAQ.

What is the price cap?

The energy price cap sets the maximum amount suppliers can charge consumers for each unit of gas or electricity. However, the price cap doesn’t limit the total cost of your energy bill, which will depend on energy use in the household.

It is set by Ofgem and changes every three months.

When will the price cap change again?

The change in the price cap is announced every three months, usually about six weeks before it takes effect.  The price cap changes on 1 January, 1 March, 1 June and 1 October every year.
