Dear [MP’s Name]

Re: Your support to lower energy bills

According to National Energy Action, energy bills remain nearly £500 higher a year than before the energy crisis began. At the same time, because energy has been so unaffordable, energy debt has reached a record £4.43 billion. This has is has badly affected [me, my neighbours, local community] financially and is impacting the physical and mental health of our nation.

Ahead of Fuel Poverty Awareness Day on 26 November, I’m writing to you as your constituent to ask for your urgent support in tackling unaffordable energy bills – and their devastating impact. New polling by National Energy Action and YouGov shows that:

  • Six in ten adults across Great Britain say they are likely to ration their heating this winter – a nine-point increase since January.
  • More than two thirds of parents are worried about energy costs this winter

These are not just statistics — they represent real people in communities like mine, and I am aware of too many people who are being forced to choose between heating and eating, or going without power altogether. Unaffordable energy bills will also present a risk to health, and life, this winter and there is a real risk too many vulnerable members of our society might be forced to go to hospital to keep warm or may not even survive the colder weather.

Successive UK Governments have pledged to slash fuel poverty, but not enough progress has been made. I urge you to raise this issue in Parliament and call on the UK Government to:

  • Deliver the full £13.2 billion Warm Homes Plan, to ensure that fuel poor households can move to cleaner, more affordable heating and live in warmer homes.
  • Introduce deeper targeted support to reduce energy bills for the most vulnerable or cut everyone’s bill by removing VAT and pay for green levies through the Treasury.
  • Support households in energy debt, including contributing to future phases of Ofgem’s proposed Debt Relief Support Scheme.

These are practical, proven solutions that would protect the most vulnerable, reduce pressure on the NHS, and support local economies.

To ensure that no one in our community is left in a cold, unsafe home this winter, please:

Meet with local residents and organisations affected by cold homes to hear their experiences first-hand and press for solutions that work for communities like ours.

Give the topic time in Parliament by raising questions and contributing to debates on fuel poverty and the need for action to ensure everyone has a warm home.

Write to the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero calling for a Warm Homes Plan that prioritises warmth for low-income households.

Write to the Chancellor of the Exchequer calling for immediate measures to cut bills for low income households.

Sign and support relevant Early Day Motions or cross-party letters on fuel poverty, energy debt, and home energy efficiency.

Yours sincerely,

Dear [MS’s Name],

Ahead of Fuel Poverty Awareness Day on 26 November, I’m writing to you as your constituent to ask for your urgent support in tackling unaffordable energy bills and its devastating impact on people across Wales.

According to National Energy Action Cymru, energy bills remain nearly £500 higher than before the energy crisis began. At the same time, because energy has been so unaffordable, energy debt has reached a record £4.43 billion. This has badly affected [me, my neighbours, local community] financially and is impacting the physical and mental health of our nation.

New polling by National Energy Action Cymru and YouGov shows that:

  • Six in 10 (60%) adults in Wales say it is likely they will ration their energy in the coming three months
  • Only 41% of Welsh adults say they’ve been able to comfortably afford their heating bill in the last three months without needing to ration their heating or make cuts elsewhere
  • Six in 10 (61%) adults in Wales are worried about energy costs this winter, increasing to 73% for parents with children under 16.

These are not just statistics – they represent real people in our communities, like mine, and I am aware of too many people who often cannot afford to heat nor eat and are going without energy altogether. Unaffordable energy bills will also present a risk to health this winter and there is a real risk too many vulnerable members of our society might be forced to go to hospital to keep warm or may not even survive the colder weather.

With targeted action to increase incomes, lower prices and stop energy waste in our homes we can make a real difference to people’s lives. Ahead of the Senedd elections, I urge you to call on all Welsh political parties to:

  • Commit to address fuel poverty and use the full yield of UK Government’s Warm Homes Plan consequential towards the same aim of helping to cut bills, tackle fuel poverty and making homes greener in Wales.
  • Call on UK Government to deliver its £13.2bn Warm Homes Plan in full, introduce deeper, targeted supportwith energy bills and support households in energy debt, including contributing to future phases of Ofgem’s proposed Debt Relief Support Scheme.

These are practical, proven solutions that would protect the most vulnerable, reduce pressure on the NHS, and support local economies.

Please do all you can to ensure that no one in our community is left in a cold, unsafe home this winter.

Yours sincerely,

Dear [MLA’s Name],

Ahead of Fuel Poverty Awareness Day on 26 November, I’m writing to you as your constituent to ask for your urgent support in tackling unaffordable energy bills and their devastating impact. New polling by National Energy Action Northern Ireland (NEA NI) and LucidTalk shows that:

  • 39% of NI households are in fuel poverty – spending more than 10% of their income on energy.
  • One in five households has gone without heating or electricity at least once in the past two years due to not being able to afford it.
  • Nearly half of people in NI (46%) are worried about paying energy bills – now or as we head into winter.

These are not just statistics – they represent real people in communities like mine, and I am aware of too many people who are being forced to choose between heating and eating, or going without power altogether. Unaffordable energy bills will also present a risk to health and life this winter, and there is a real risk that too many vulnerable members of our society might be forced to go to hospital to keep warm or may not even survive the colder weather.

The NI Executive has previously committed to slash fuel poverty, but not enough progress has been made. Through targeted actions to increase incomes, lower energy bills and improve the energy efficiency of our homes, we can make a real difference to people’s lives.

I urge you to raise these issues in the NI Assembly and write to the NI Executive, calling on them to:

  • Deliver a new, sufficiently resourced Fuel Poverty Strategy for Northern Ireland, supported by a truly cross-departmental action plan and a statutory target to reduce fuel poverty
  • Utilise the full yield of additional Barnett consequential funding from the UK Government’s Warm Homes Plan to tackle fuel poverty in NI and make homes more energy efficient.

These are practical, proven solutions that would protect the most vulnerable, reduce pressure on the health service, and support local economies.

Please do all you can to ensure that no one in our community is left in a cold, unsafe home this winter.

Yours sincerely,

Parthed: Eich cefnogaeth i ostwng biliau ynni

Yn ôl National Energy Action, mae biliau ynni’n parhau bron £500 yn uwch na chyn dechrau’r argyfwng ynni. Ar yr un pryd, oherwydd bod ynni mor anfforddiadwy, mae dyled ynni wedi cyrraedd y ffigwr uchaf erioed o £4.43 biliwn. Mae hyn wedi effeithio’n wael [arna i, ar fy nghymdogion, ar y gymuned leol] yn ariannol ac mae’n effeithio iechyd corfforol a meddyliol ein gwlad.

Cyn y Diwrnod Ymwybyddiaeth Tlodi Tanwydd ar 26 Tachwedd, rwy’n ysgrifennu atoch fel eich etholwr i ofyn am cefnogaeth gennych ar frys i fynd i’r afael â biliau ynni anfforddiadwy – a’u heffaith ddinistriol. Mae pôl newydd gan National Energy Action a YouGov yn dangos bod:

· Chwech o bob deg oedolyn ar draws Prydain Fawr yn dweud eu bod yn debygol o ddogni gwresogi y gaeaf hwn – cynnydd o naw pwynt ers mis Ionawr.

· Mwy na dau draean o rieni’n poeni am gostau ynni y gaeaf hwn.

Nid ystadegau yn unig yw’r rhain – maen nhw’n cynrychioli pobl go iawn mewn cymunedau fel fy nghymuned i, ac rwy’n ymwybodol o ormod o bobl sy’n cael eu gorfodi i ddewis rhwng gwresogi a bwyta, neu ymwrthod rhag defnyddio ynni o gwbl. Bydd biliau ynni anfforddiadwy hefyd yn peri risg i iechyd a bywyd, a’r gaeaf hwn mae risg wirioneddol y gallai gormod o aelodau o’n cymdeithas sy’n agored i niwed orfod mynd i’r ysbyty i gadw’n gynnes neu efallai na fyddant yn goroesi’r tywydd oerach o gwbl.

Mae Llywodraethau DU olynol wedi ymrwymo i leihau tlodi tanwydd, ond nid oes digon o gynnydd wedi’i wneud. Rwy’n eich annog i godi’r mater hwn yn Senedd y DU ac i alw ar Lywodraeth y DU i:

· Gyflwyno’r Cynllun Cartrefi Cynnes llawn gwerth £13.2 biliwn, er mwyn sicrhau y gall aelwydydd mewn tlodi tanwydd symud i wresogi glanach a mwy fforddiadwy a byw mewn cartrefi cynhesach.

· Cyflwyno cymorth dwysach wedi’i dargedu i leihau biliau ynni’r rhai sydd fwyaf agored i niwed neu dorri biliau pawb drwy ddileu TAW a thalu am ardollau gwyrdd drwy’r Trysorlys.

· Cefnogi aelwydydd sydd mewn dyled ynni, gan gynnwys cyfrannu at gamau’r dyfodol o Gynllun Cymorth Rhyddhad Dyled arfaethedig Ofgem.

Mae’r rhain yn atebion ymarferol sydd wedi profi eu gwerth a fyddai’n gwarchod y rhai mwyaf agored i niwed, yn lleihau pwysau ar y GIG, ac yn cefnogi economïau lleol.

Er mwyn sicrhau nad oes neb yn ein cymuned yn cael ei adael mewn cartref oer, anniogel y gaeaf hwn, gofynnaf i chi:

· Roi amser i’r pwnc yn Senedd y DU drwy godi cwestiynau a chyfrannu at drafodaethau ar dlodi tanwydd a’r angen am weithredu i sicrhau bod gan bawb gartref cynnes.

· Ysgrifennu at yr Ysgrifennydd Gwladol dros Ddiogelwch Ynni a Sero Net yn galw am Gynllun Cartrefi Cynnes sy’n blaenoriaethu cynhesrwydd aelwydydd incwm isel.

· Ysgrifennu at Ganghellor y Trysorlys yn galw am fesurau ar unwaith i dorri biliau aelwydydd incwm isel.

· Llofnodi a chefnogi Cynigion Cynnar-Yn-Y-Dydd perthnasol neu lythyrau trawsbleidiol ar dlodi tanwydd, dyled ynni, ac effeithlonrwydd ynni cartrefi.

· Cwrdd â thrigolion lleol a sefydliadau yr effeithir arnynt gan gartrefi oer i glywed eu profiadau o lygad y ffynnon a phwyso am atebion sy’n gweithio i gymunedau fel ein un ni.

Annwyl [MS’s Name],

Mae arolwg newydd gan National Energy Action Cymru a YouGov yn dangos:

  • Bod chwech o bob 10 (60%) o oedolion yng Nghymru yn dweud y byddant yn debygol o ddogni eu hynni dros y tri mis nesaf
  • Mai dim ond 41% o oedolion Cymru sy’n dweud iddynt allu fforddio eu bil gwresogi’n gyfforddus dros y tri mis diwethaf heb orfod dogni eu gwresogi neu gwtogi ar bethau eraill

Mae chwech o bob 10 (61%) o oedolion yng Nghymru yn poeni am gostau ynni y gaeaf hwn, gan gynyddu i 73% i rieni â phlant o dan 16 oed.

Nid ystadegau yn unig yw’r rhain – maen nhw’n cynrychioli pobl go iawn yn ein cymunedau, fel fy nghymuned i, ac rwy’n ymwybodol o ormod o bobl nad ydynt yn aml yn gallu fforddio gwresogi na bwyta ac sy’n ymwrthod rhag defnyddio ynni’n gyfan gwbl. Bydd biliau ynni anfforddiadwy hefyd yn peri risg i iechyd, a’r gaeaf hwn mae risg wirioneddol y gallai gormod o aelodau o’n cymdeithas sy’n agored i niwed orfod mynd i’r ysbyty i gadw’n gynnes neu efallai na fyddant yn goroesi’r tywydd oerach o gwbl.

Gyda chamau wedi’u targedu i gynyddu incwm, gostwng prisiau a stopio gwastraffu ynni yn ein cartrefi, gallwn wneud gwahaniaeth gwirioneddol i fywydau pobl. Cyn etholiadau’r Senedd, rwy’n eich annog i alw ar bob plaid wleidyddol yng Nghymru i:

  • Ymrwymo i fynd i’r afael â thlodi tanwydd a defnyddio gwerth llawn cyllid canlyniadol Cynllun Cartrefi Cynnes Llywodraeth y DU tuag at yr un nod o helpu i dorri biliau, mynd i’r afael â thlodi tanwydd a gwneud cartrefi’n fwy gwyrdd yng Nghymru.
  • Galw ar Lywodraeth y DU i gyflwyno ei Chynllun Cartrefi Cynnes gwerth £13.2bn yn llawn, cyflwyno cymorth dwysach, wedi’i dargedu gyda biliau ynni a chefnogi aelwydydd sydd mewn dyled ynni, gan gynnwys cyfrannu at gamau Cynllun Cefnogi Rhyddhad Dyled arfaethedig Ofgem yn y dyfodol.

Mae’r rhain yn atebion ymarferol sydd wedi profi eu gwerth a fyddai’n gwarchod y rhai mwyaf agored i niwed, yn lleihau pwysau ar y GIG, ac yn cefnogi economïau lleol.

Gofynnaf i chi wneud popeth o fewn eich gallu i sicrhau nad oes neb yn ein cymuned yn cael ei adael mewn cartref oer, anniogel y gaeaf hwn.
