Level 3 Award in Energy Awareness 6281-01 – Learner Registration (new assessment format)
NEA are in the process of changing the format of the Level 3 Award in Energy Awareness 6281-01 assessment with the new format available from the beginning of September 2025. Your assessment will be in the new format.
The assessment will consist of the following:
PART 1 – SIMULATION-BASED ASSESSMENT (controlled assessment, must be observed by an assessor)
The simulation-based assessment is a 30 minute one-to-one interview with an assessor delivered via Microsoft Teams or Zoom. The assessor will use role-play to create a realistic scenario that allows the candidate to:
- Demonstrate problem-solving abilities using an electricity bill
- Explain how to correctly read a dial meter
- Demonstrate how to set a mechanical programmer and explaining to the assessor the various functions of the programmer. the Demonstrating how to set a digital programmable room thermostat.
PART 2 – ONLINE WRITTEN ASSESSMENT: OPEN BOOK (non-controlled assessment, does not need to be observed by an assessor)
The online written assessment will be sent to learners upon successful completion of the simulation-based assessment (usually the same day) and learners will have a maximum of 14 days to complete. The assessment is open book format meaning that learners may refer to their course materials but answers must be in their own words. The assessment will cover:
- Home Heating
- Bills, Meters and Paying for Fuel
- Cutting Down Heat Loss
- Condensation and Dampness
