Energy Awareness 6281-01
Learner Registration
PLEASE NOTE: Learners must be enrolled onto the Energy Awareness 6281-01 course before booking an assessment. Without the course enrolment learners will not have access to the course materials to study. If you have not yet enrolled onto the course, please contact trainingadmin@nea.org.uk
The Level 3 Award in Energy Awareness 6281-01 assessment consists of two parts:
Part 1: Simulation-based assessment (controlled assessment)
- Demonstrate problem-solving abilities using an electricity bill
- Explain how to correctly read a dial meter
- Demonstrate how to set a mechanical programmer and explaining to the assessor the various functions of the programmer.
- Demonstrating how to set a digital programmable room thermostat.
This part of the assessment must be observed by an examiner and will take place at a scheduled date and time. A programme of open access dates are outlined below for candidates to book. Each simulation will last a maximum of 30 minutes.
Upon successful completion of the simulation, the second part of the assessment (the open book assessment) will be released to learners. Further details on this are outlined below.
The simulation based assessment consists of a one-to-one interview with the examiner via Microsoft Teams or Zoom.
The examiner will use role play to create a realistic scenario that allows the candidate to demonstrate their skills.
All simulation-based assessments are recorded and stored electronically for internal and external quality assurance monitoring. Candidates must gain 100% to achieve an overall pass in the simulation assessment. Where learners fail to achieve a pass, a re-sit can be arranged for a later date.
Part 2: Open book assessment (non controlled assessment)
- Home Heating
- Bills, Meters and Paying for Fuel
- Cutting Down Heat Loss
- Condensation and Dampness
As this is a non-controlled assessment, it does not need to be observed by an examiner.
The open book assessment will be released to candidates upon successful completion of the simulation-based assessment and they will have a maximum of 14 days to complete. At the end of the 14 day period the assessment will expire and candidates will need to contact NEA to release a new attempt if they have not already submitted.
The assessment consists of a number of questions requiring short sentence answers. The open book format means that learners are encouraged to use the knowledge that they learnt from their course and will also be provided with candidate assessment reference materials.
Candidates must answer questions in their own words and not copy and paste directly from the course or the candidate assessment reference materials. Copying and pasting is classed as plagiarism and assessors will reject answers they suspect of plagiarism resulting in an automatic fail of the assessment.
The assessment must be carried out individually and candidates must not collude with others to assist in answering the questions. Candidates must gain a minimum of 80% to achieve a pass. Where learners fail to achieve a pass a re-sit can be arranged for a later date.
FEES
The assessment fee is generally included in the overall course fee and not charged separately. If you received a funded place from NEA, your assessment must take place within the timeframe agreed at the point of booking unless otherwise agreed. Any assessments that take place outside of the funding period may be charged.
