Despite positive attempts to end fuel poverty in Wales, the statutory targets that were in place to eradicate the scourge of cold homes were missed and fuel poverty continues to be a devastating problem.

Here, we respond to the Welsh Government’s new plans to tackle fuel poverty in Wales between now and 2035.

We make several recommendations, not least for the Welsh Government to ensure it meets its statutory obligation to introduce interim targets. Other recommendations relate to monitoring, evaluation and reporting, definitions and measurement, actions, working with partners, and alignment; all of which we hope will help ensure the final plan represents the strongest possible response to ending fuel poverty in Wales.
