National Energy Action Chief Executive Adam Scorer responds to the government announcement on solid wall insulation.
Adam says, ‘When installed correctly, we know solid wall insulation measures can be hugely positive for households, slashing energy bills, making homes more comfortable places to live and transforming the appearance of streets and whole neighbourhoods.
‘They are, however, more complex and costly than other basic insulation measures, and extra care by installers is essential to make sure solid wall insulation is installed correctly. We know how vital this is from our own practical work to put right failed projects where other parties have done a poor job, resulting in misery for the residents.
‘As such, it is vital the government takes this swift action to address widespread cases of poor-quality solid wall insulation installations and to help affected households get recourse to put things right. We also hope this decisive action by the government, alongside sustained improvements in the quality of installations, will help to restore trust in energy saving schemes. We will do what we can as a charity to ensure consumer protection, high standards and advice all need to sit at the heart of the government’s upcoming Warm Homes Plan.’
