Fuel Poverty Awareness Day 2026

On Wednesday 18 November 2026, National Energy Action’s Fuel Poverty Awareness Day will shine a light on the scale and impact of fuel poverty on children and their health now and throughout their lives.

Fuel poverty in Wales

More than four in five low-income households in Wales cannot afford to adequately heat their homes; many of whom find themselves in significant debt just from trying to stay warm and keep the lights on. Between 2021-2024, the number of children living in fuel poverty across the country broadly doubled. Behind these statistics, are children living in cold, damp conditions that harm their health and wellbeing and can negatively affect their life chances for decades.

How you can help influence Welsh policy and decision-makers on Fuel Poverty Awareness Day

Join National Energy Action Cymru in urging the Welsh Government to:

  1. Significantly increase investment to make the homes of low-income, vulnerable households warmer and healthier. All children deserve to grow up in healthy and safe environments. Increased investment will help protect families from the immediate and long-term harms of living in cold homes.

  2. Maximise targeted financial support for fuel poor households this winter. This will help ensure children do not have to spend months in cold, damp conditions that put their health, wellbeing, and future opportunities at risk.

  3. End the inequality faced by children living in privately rented homes by ensuring the UK Government agree stronger minimum energy efficiency standards and that local authorities across Wales are adequately resourced to enforce them. If the delay is ended, we can deliver warmer, safer, more efficient homes for children living in the private rented sector across England and Wales.
