Introduction to Domestic Energy Efficiency (Northern Irleland)

This half-day course provides a clear introduction to domestic energy efficiency, equipping frontline staff with the essential knowledge needed to advise householders effectively.

This course is aimed at frontline staff who give advice or offer support on fuel poverty and energy efficiency.

The course aims to raise frontline staff awareness of how householders can use their energy more efficiently and reduce possible waste while still maintaining a warm and comfortable home.

During this course, we will:

  • Explain how energy is used in the home
  • Identify common heating systems and appliances
  • Explore the use of basic heating controls
  • Discuss the different ways heat is lost in the home and how insulation measures can help prevent this
  • Identify tips to reduce electricity consumption and the cost of heating water
  • Explore different sources of assistance and advice

 

  • Explain basic space heating appliances
  • Explanation of some basic space heating and hot water controls including room thermostats, TRVs, storage heaters and programmers
  • Tips for using energy more efficiency in relation to heating, hot water, lighting and appliances
  • Examine heat loss in the home and insulation
  • Explain some of the help and assistance available

2.5 hours – a short comfort break will be included during the course.

Webinars are delivered live by our expert tutors and designed for small groups, ensuring a high level of interaction, engaging activities, and support throughout.

We typically use Zoom for our online sessions.

To join, learners will need a device with internet access and sound capability, along with a microphone and webcam to enable full participation.

Following the webinar, learners will also receive a handout booklet covering the course topics.

After the session, learners will receive a learners manual summarising and reinforcing the key topics covered during the course.

Some fully funded places are available, supported by the Public Health Agency, to non-commercial organisations such as local health, housing, Voluntary & Community and advice agency staff etc.

Learners must be frontline staff or volunteers that encounter and provide advice to those in or at risk of fuel poverty.
