Increased Socialisation of Connection Costs in the Electricity Distribution Network Consultation

Our response

NEA NI recognises the need for increased investment in the electricity network and the rationale for socialising connection costs to support decarbonisation. However, we highlight important concerns around affordability and fairness, noting that spreading the costs across all consumers could place additional pressure on vulnerable and low-income households, particularly those less able to benefit from new low-carbon technologies at present due to significant upfront investment.

NEA NI therefore emphasises the need for careful design and monitoring of the policy to ensure vulnerable households are not disproportionately impacted.
