Our response

NEA NI’s response focuses on the Energy and Residential Buildings sections of the draft Climate Action Plan (CAP).

We support the draft CAP’s ambition to reduce carbon emissions and meet the first carbon budget, but stress that decarbonisation must be delivered in a way that safeguards affordable warmth and does not deepen fuel poverty.

We highlight that climate action and fuel poverty are interconnected challenges. NI must increase investment in domestic energy efficiency to cut both emissions and household energy costs. We outline that to succeed, the draft CAP must place affordable warmth and the principles of a Just Transition at its core.
