What is fuel poverty?
The problem
National Energy Action (NEA) provides the secretariat for the All Party Parliamentary Group for fuel poverty and energy efficiency.
Every home should be warm enough to provide a healthy living environment. Yet it is an unacceptable reality that millions of households in the UK live homes that they are unable to keep warm and power at a reasonable cost. Sadly thousands still sadly die every winter due to living in a cold home. Beyond premature mortality, there are a range of negative outcomes for physical health. What’s more, a cold home can be a lonely and depressing place to live with proven links to exacerbating mental health conditions. For young children, a cold home can also mean poor school attainment and social exclusion. This can have negative implications for their future life chances.
