A Warm Welcome: Fuel Poverty, Health Impacts and Assistance

 

This half-day training course is designed for frontline staff and volunteers who want to know more about the causes of fuel poverty, and the impact of cold homes on physical and mental wellbeing in pregnancy and for newborn babies.

The course is specifically aimed at those who work with new and expectant families vulnerable to the impacts of colder homes.

The aim is to help delegates identify those likely to be at risk from cold homes, be aware of potential health impacts and signpost to appropriate assistance.

AUDIENCE

This fully funded course is designed for frontline staff and volunteers working with new and expectant families who want to learn about fuel poverty, its causes, and links with physical and mental wellbeing.

COURSE AIM

The course looks at the causes and impacts of fuel poverty with a focus on the health impacts in pregnancy and for newborn babies. It aims to help delegates identify those likely to be at risk from cold homes and signpost to assistance.

OBJECTIVES

Explain:

  • causes of fuel poverty and health impacts, especially in pregnancy and early months / years of life
  • causes of and remedies for condensation dampness, to maintain health and wellbeing for young babies and children
  • avoiding heat loss in the home
  • grants and other forms of assistance

CONTENT

  • Fuel Poverty indicators and the causes of fuel poverty
  • Identifying those at risk, by understanding risk factors and triggers
  • The health impacts of cold, damp homes in pregnancy and early years
  • The causes of condensation dampness / mold and actions that can be taken to avoid this
  • Assistance and sources of advice available to those struggling to heat their home adequatel

DURATION

2.5 hour

HOW WILL THE WEBINAR WORK?

Webinars will be delivered live via Zoom (video conferencing facility) by our expert tutors to small groups to ensure a good level of interaction and support for learners. Participants will require a device with a camera and sound.

Face to face courses will also be available a little later in they year upon request.

FEES (PER PERSON)

Places are available free of charge to frontline staff and volunteers that work with new and expectant families. This includes healthcare professionals, community groups etc.
