Through this three-year project NEA will work with partners in Malta, Italy, Spain and France to increase knowledge of and engagement with smart meters amongst 5000 vulnerable consumers.
Based on the premise that the more vulnerable customers are supported to understand and interact with their smart meter, the more likely they are to achieve energy savings and benefit from other related services, the project will train installers and frontline workers so they are able to offer enhanced advice to smart meter customers, and then monitor the impact of this. As well as ensuring that 1,000 vulnerable households in each country benefit from enhanced advice, a smaller scale pilot will also examine the impact of other interventions to help encourage interaction with the meter. The results from the project will be used to help inform smart meter roll out at both nationally and across Europe.
