Cold, damp and unsafe homes cause shocking levels of unnecessary hardship, ill health and premature mortality. In November 2020, the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) published the Excess Winter Mortality report1. This report provides information on the mortality levels during the four winter months of December to March. The report details that there were 5,802 deaths in Northern Ireland in the 2019/20 winter period which is the third highest number of winter deaths in the last 10 years.
