Heat pumps for park homes, Basingstoke (CP753)
|LEAD AGENCY:||Yorkshire Energy Services CIC (trading as YES Energy Solutions)|
|OTHER PARTNERS:||Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council, Worcester Bosch Group|
|PROJECT SUMMARY:||Air-to-Air Heat Pumps are to be installed in 30 park home properties owned by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council; Air-to-Air Heat Pumps are not commonly used heating technology in the UK. The site is not connected to mains gas, and homeowners use a variety of other high-cost heating systems to heat their homes (electricity, oil and LPG). Analysis suggests that 78% of residents are in fuel poverty.
The project will establish running costs of Air-Air heat pumps customer satisfaction to provide a case study for future Park Home sites.
|EVALUATION METHODOLOGY:||Interviews will be conducted with a sample of households receiving the measures to capture behaviours and previous energy expenditure, as well as the thermal comfort and experiences of their old heating systems. This will be repeated after a winter of using their new systems. Household interviews will be supplemented by thermal data logging, electricity meter logging, and manual energy meter readings taken by householders.
External temperatures will be logged to statistically “correct” heating use with outdoor temperatures over the monitoring period. A separate group of comparable properties will be utilised to compare the performance of the heat pumps with traditional LPG/electric heating systems. Monitoring will be for 12 months, and will include a full winter heating period.
