Description of a solar PV system

A solar photovoltaic system, also known as a solar PV system includes the following components:

Solar panels – these convert sunlight into Direct Current or DC electricity

Inverter – this converts the DC electricity from the solar panels into Alternating Current or AC electricity which can be used in the home.

Isolators – these are switches which can be turned off to allow an electrician to safely work on the system.

Generation meter – this records the amount of electricity generated by the solar PV system. This may automatically send meter readings back to the landlord if living in social housing. Be careful not to provide your PV generation meter reading when you give your electricity supplier your electricity meter reading.
