Level 1 Award: Introduction to household energy efficiency

city and guilds 600x400The Level 1 Award Introduction to Household Energy Efficiency consists of five units (as outlined below), each unit carries a City & Guilds unit accreditation and successful completion of all five units will result in the full level 1 award.
Course outline

Each individual unit consists of the following:

The principles of fuel consumption in the home (6281-10)

Course explains:

  • Identify the different types of fuel used within the home
  • Calculate how electricity is measured and work out the cost
  • Identify different types of meters
  • Explain the different parts of a fuel bill

The principles of renewable electricity (6281–11)

Course explains:

  • Renewable energy and renewable electricity
  • Solar photovoltaic, micro and small-wind turbines and micro-hydro electricity
  • Advantages and drawbacks of the solar photovoltaic, micro and small-wind turbines and micro-hydro electricity
  • The factors to consider before installing a renewable electricity technology

The principles of renewable heat (6281–12)

Course explains:

  • Renewable energy and renewable heat
  • Solar thermal hot water, heat pumps and biomass
  • Advantages and drawbacks of the solar thermal hot water, heat pumps and biomass
  • The factors to consider before installing a renewable heat technology

The Principles of Heat Loss and Insulation (6281-13)

Course explains:

  • Where heat escapes from the home
  • How heat moves
  • How to use knowledge of building materials to identify heat loss
  • The procedures to insulate against heat loss
  • The costs and the benefits of insulating by selecting relevant information

The principles of heat, space and water heating (6281-14)

Course explains:

  • Identify a range of heating and hot water appliances and controls found in homes
  • Identify water heating appliances
Duration

Each unit will take approximately three hours to deliver including assessment.

Course dates / locations

This course is currently only offered on an in-house basis to organisations that are looking to train a number of staff (we can accommodate up to 15 delegates per course)
