Making a House a Home: Providing affordable warmth solutions for children and families living in fuel poverty

NEA and The Children’s Society were commissioned by National Grid Affordable Warmth Solutions to undertake an evaluation study into the lived reality of fuel poverty, its effects and the unintended consequences that arise from the coping tactics deployed by families living in a cold home. Crucially, the research explored what happens when there is an intervention made to help families achieve affordable warmth. Children and young people, and their families are placed centre stage in this largely qualitative study to tell the story of families living in fuel poverty and the dramatic difference the provision of efficient and adequate heating systems can bring about.
