ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2017
NEA Cymru Conference, 16 February 2017, Cardiff City Hall
With the Welsh Government’s target to eradicate fuel poverty by 2018 fast approaching the conference is the only one of its kind in Wales and the recognised annual forum for all interested parties and stakeholders to discuss issues relating to actions to tackle fuel poverty and improve energy efficiency in Wales.
Energy prices are a key concern for households struggling to pay their household bills and often rationing their energy to make ends meet. Whilst energy efficiency measures are having an impact on increasing the ability of households to manage their energy bills, the latest estimated statistics show that nearly 1 in 4 households in Wales are still in fuel poverty.
This year’s conference entitled ‘Beyond 2018: Policies, Programmes and New Approaches’ will consider the ever changing policy landscape – with wide ranging reforms to the energy market designed to improve consumer engagement and to treat customers fairly, we need to ensure that the interests of the most vulnerable consumers are safeguarded.
Moreover, new energy efficiency programmes will be introduced in 2017 – including a new Nest scheme from September 2017, and in April the new Energy Company Obligation comes into operation with a key focus on the fuel poor. The conference will also look at the new approaches being developed through NEA’s Health and Innovation Programme which is supporting over 7,000 fuel poor and vulnerable households across Wales, England and Scotland.
By attending the conference, you will have the opportunity to:
- debate and influence the fuel poverty policy agenda in Wales
- be better informed on the latest fuel poverty policies and programmes and implications for your clients
- share best practice on how best to engage households on their energy use
- input your views on the priorities the Fuel Poverty Coalition should be focusing on in the coming years
- join the campaign to end the scourge of fuel poverty
- Network with others engaged in the agenda and develop new partnerships
