Sheffield Warm and Well Project
Sheffield City Council
South Yorkshire Energy Centre (SYEC). Referral partners: Sheffield Advice Service (Citizens Advice); Adult Health and Social Care, VCF sector anchor organisation in locality x 5; general practices in locality x8; enhanced primary and community care
This project generated referrals of those with long-term health conditions by working with health and social care professionals, health trainers and health champion volunteers. Training was delivered to raise awareness and give staff more confidence and knowledge to make appropriate referrals.
All referrals were received and assessed by South Yorkshire Energy Centre (SYEC), who established eligibility then offered appointments. Alternatively, clients were invited to a community outreach event in their neighbourhood for a more in-depth advice session. If the client was eligible for heating and/or insulation they would then be referred to the affordable warmth section at the Council. A sample of installed heating and insulation works were inspected independently to check quality. All beneficiaries were invited to complete a satisfaction survey. Where relevant, SYEC carried out a follow up home visit.
Referrals were also sent to private sector housing officers to encourage private landlords to improve living conditions, and project staff sought out additional services for clients, including advocacy support to help maximise income.
