Newcastle Under Lyme/Dimplex tackling fuel poverty (CP756)

LEAD AGENCY: Aspire Housing
OTHER PARTNERS:
PROJECT SUMMARY: This project will compare the costs and controllability of using new high heat retention electric storage heating against older traditional models. Dimplex Quantum storage heating will be installed in 25 off-gas one and two bedroom socially rented apartments in the Newcastle Under Lyme area
EVALUATION METHODOLOGY: Interviews will be conducted in a sample of households to capture comfort levels, household behaviours and previous energy expenditure on heating in a sample of the project households.

Household interviews will be complemented by thermal data logging conducted in the households, and manual energy meter readings bill be taken periodically by householders. Electrical use on both peak and off-peak circuits will be monitored for the storage radiators, and will be conducted over a 12 month period, including a full winter heating period.

PROJECT OUTCOMES: The project will evaluate the technical and social aspect of installing modern high heat retention storage heating in a range of off gas vulnerable households. The findings will be used to illustrate the cost of running modern storage heating and the impact of a project to upgrade traditional electric heating with this technology.
