Energy Performance Certificates

NEA welcomes the introduction of Energy Performance Certificates as a way to encourage improvements in the energy efficiency of the existing housing stock.
Basic information in the EPCs needs to be supplemented with practical advice and financial support, especially for people on low incomes, who may not be able to afford the recommended energy efficiency measures or know about their housing rights.
A central record of Energy Performance Certificate Data should be set up which can be shared by relevant agencies and energy suppliers. This would assist across a number of Government policy objectives including identifying those homes where the condition of the property represents a Category 1 Hazard to the occupant under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System; and targeting energy efficiency schemes such as Warm Front and CERT at homes in low-income areas which are most in need of improvements.
