NVQ QUALIFICATIONS
National Energy Action (NEA) and City and Guilds (C&G) have been instrumental in maintaining NVQs for the energy efficiency industry since 1991. NVQs are designed to assess whether a worker is competently working to National Occupational Standards. In collaboration with the industry via the Construction Sector Skills Council, the National Occupational Standards have been revised regularly and the NVQs have been revised on four occasions to ensure they meet the requirements of the standards. NEA has developed all the assessment and verification materials needed by the assessment centres to offer these NVQs. An NVQ lasts a minimum of 10 weeks and involves the candidate gathering evidence that they are working to the standards for his or her job. This evidence is put into a portfolio to be assessed. The candidate will also take part in a workplace observation, doing their actual job, so they won't be taken away from their job unnecessarily. The only times they will be taken out of their workplace is for the initial session and to answer some questions about their job at the end of the process. NEA provides support to all the NVQ centres that offer the NVQs in two qualifications, Insulation and Building Treatments and Providing Energy Efficiency Services. We help centres to become established and help their staff to become qualified assessors and verifiers. We provide all the paperwork for carrying out the whole NVQ process and we provide on-going support for these staff. * The NVQ assessment process
